Preble County offers many local festivals such as the Preble County Pork Festival, Lewisburg Derby Days, Camden Black Walnut Festival and the Fairhaven Antique Show.

The pride in local history is reflected at the Preble County Historical Society, the remaining seven covered bridges and even in the Christmas song "Up on the House Top" that was written in New Paris by Rev. Benjamin Hanby back in 1864.

  • March 4 Old-Fashioned Carry-In Lunch and "Pie & Cake Auction 12:00 pm You are invited to join us at The Gathering Place, 501 Nation Avenue, Eaton, for an Old-Fashioned Carry-In Lunch. Please bring a covered dish to share. We will provide table service and beverages. After lunch, we would like to welcome our special speaker, Thomas Bradley, a Preble County Historian.

    To finish our afternoon, you will have a chance to bid on some delicious desserts at our "Pie & Cake" Auction. This is always a popular event. There will be many homemade items to choose from.

  • March 4 The Preble County Art Association is pleased to announce a children’s art class to be held at the Preble Fine Arts Center in Eaton during the month of March. Janet Burkett will be offering a children’s class during the month of March.  Colors – What’s Your Favorite? is for children ages 7 and up.  Everyone has a favorite color and every color is beautiful. Students will learn about the color wheel and will explore color with several projects including fabric dyeing, painting and making a mixed media collage. This class will be held every Wednesday from 4 to 5:30 pm beginning March 9 for a total of 4 weeks.   • March 11 Chili Cook-Off Calling all cooks! Get out your favorite chili soup recipe and start cooking! We want you to enter your pot of chili in our upcoming "Chili Cook-Off." Please RSVP to the Senior Center if you plan to enter your chili.

    Judging will take place at 11:30 am at The Gathering Place, 501 Nation Avenue, Eaton. At 12:00 noon, you can sample all the chili soup entries at $1 per bowl. Of course, entrants eat at no charge.

    It's always a surprise to see the many types of chili soup, some with meat, or no meat, some with beans, or no beans, some with mild seasoning or hot seasoning, and of course there is "on fire" seasoning. Plan now to join us for this special event.

  • March 14  The Preble County Art Association is pleased to announce the next two sessions of Adult Art classes.  This class is open to any adult age 18 years and up who is interested in learning and practicing the basics of drawing and painting, as taught by Joyce Young.  No previous art experience is required. In this class students will be instructed in the basics of drawing and painting: perspective, shading and shadowing, and color mixing.  All mediums are welcome.  A supply list will be provided on the first day of class or students may bring their own supplies.  The class will be held every Monday from 1-4pm for four weeks beginning March 14 for the first session and beginning April 11 for the next session.  Students may participate in either or both sessions.  Tuition is $45, due by the first day of class.For additional information or to sign up for these classes, please call the Fine Arts Center at 937-456-3999 or email at office@takepartinart.net.

This hilarious comedy/drama features a Women's Institute chapter's plans for a fundraising effort for a local hospital by posing nude for a calendar. The idea becomes a media sensation.

  • June 10 Monte Carlo Night Fundraiser The Preble County Council on Aging will hold a Monte Carlo Night on June 10th, from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm, at The Gathering Place, 501 Nation Avenue, Eaton. The Council on Aging has seen a large increase in requests this year for emergency assistance. We have stretched our designated dollars to help as many people as possible, but the fund is running low. Monte Carlo Night will be a major fundraiser for Preble County Council on Aging and all proceeds will go toward the Emergency Fund for assistance to seniors in meeting energy and utility bills, prescription needs, home repairs, etc. The event is open to the public, but you must be 21 or older to win raffle prizes. There will be food available for a small contribution.   • November 12thIntroduction to fabric Dying This Saturday workshop (10 to 2:30) is a great introduction to fabric dyeing for quilters and crafters.  Participants will dye fat quarter cotton fabric yardage using the low water immersion method. We will start with a dark color and dye three shades lighter. Participants will also be able to mix dyes and dye another cotton item. Dyes, fat quarters and other materials will be provided, the additional item will be provided by students. The additional cotton item can be a shirt, apron, blouse, more yardage, or other cotton item. Item should be pre-washed and dried without fabric softener or dryer sheets.
